20 Historic Black and White Photos Colorized

2 Sep

Way cool.

One of the greatest facets of reddit are the thriving subreddits, niche communities of people who share a passion for a specific topic. One of the Sifter’s personal favourites is r/ColorizedHistory. The major contributors are a mix of professional and amateur colorizers that bring historic photos to life through color. All of them are highly skilled digital artists that use a combination of historical reference material and a natural eye for colour.

When we see old photos in black and white, we sometimes forget that life back then was experienced in the same vibrant colours that surround us today. This gallery of talented artists helps us remember that 🙂

Below you will find a collection of some of the highest rated colorized images to date on r/ColorizedHistory.

I’ve also provide a list of some of the top contributors (in no particular order):

Skyrim tips!

27 Feb

If you want to improve Smithing, ask Alvor in Riverwood if he needs any help around the forge. He will have you make and improve an iron dagger and hide helmet, all while giving you the necessary materials. You’ll get to keep them afterward too!

Pick up EVERYTHING when exploring caves, etc. You can sell it, which not only makes you money, but increases the speech skill as well.

When using a bow and arrow, use the crosshairs in the middle of your screen as a guide to where the arrow will go.

The hardest frostbite spider you’ll ever have to fight is the one in Bleak Falls Barrow. The rest are fairly easy to defeat.

When you have begun a new game, you will need money and supplies. Bandits are a good source of supplies if you’re just starting out and  fairly easy to defeat

If you have the Hearthfire expansion, making building materials is an easy way to up the smithing skill, which will allow you to make higher level weapons and armor. Just make sure you have plenty of iron ingots.

If you haven’t discovered a hold capital yet and don’t want to walk, you can take a carriage, which are usually available at the stables of some of the bigger hold capitals.

In order to gain access to orc strongholds, you have to gain the orcs’ trust. To do that, you must do a favor for some of them. For example, you can help the blacksmith in Markarth.

If you want to keep excess items, store them somewhere safe, preferrably in a space you own. If you don’t have a house yet, join the College of Winterhold. When you join, you will get your own dorm room If you finish the College of Winterhold quests, you will gain access to the Archmage’s Chambers. Both are great places to store excess items.

Anything you drop stays where you drop it. So, if you want to pick up some items from a body, but don’t have the carrying capacity to carry them, you can drop them and come back to them later.

Year In Review: 2012

2 Jan

What happened this year in the world of me (in no particular order):

  • I got a dog in June. Well, my family did. At first, we started out fostering him to see what it would be like to take care of a dog (he’s our first dog!), but we fell in love with Brian and adopted him.
  • I turned 21. I can now drink alcohol without either having to be in Europe or feeling like I’m doing something illegal.
  • I left that awful College Living Experience program I was in in Monterey and started fully living on my own. I could go on and on about how much I hated that place and how they didn’t let me fully be independent (well, aside from funding from my parents).
  • I started applying to 4 year colleges to transfer. Just another step closer to leaving community college and getting my degree.
  • I went to New York City for the first time. I went with my aunt and did a buch of things, but didn’t get to everything NYC has to offer. That’s when I learned that you need more than one day to do everything in NYC.
  • The above trip to my aunt’s also let me experience the pains of making flight connections and flights that arrive hours late by myself. Yeah. United sucks.
  • I got an Xbox 360. With the money I got for my birthday, I bought myself an Xbox 360 along with Halo 3 and Skyrim. I am completely hooked on Skyrim now.

So, I’ve gotten really into Skyrim and I have noticed the lack of gender roles in it.

Here’s what I mean. Not only can you be either a male or a female and go on the same adventures (it would kind of beat the purpose if your quests were limited if you played a female), but there are female bandits, soldiers, and generals. Since the game looks like it takes place in the Middle Ages, well Earth Middle Ages, this seems a bit unrealistic. But since Skyrim takes place in a fantasy world that ins completely different from Earth, it’s not. It’s a perfectly good excuse t have strong women characters in a game without making it look awkward and unrealistic.

As for Skyrim, it’s very fun and addicting. It’s easy to spend hours and hours playing it. The graphics are beautiful and the music is amazing. Of course it is more appealing to people who like things from the fantasy genre and the game itself kind of reminds me of Lord of the Rings.

Song I am currently obsessed with 1: Some Nights–Fun.

I don’t know what it is about this song, but I love it! It makes me want to sing along to it every time I hear it.

I did see someone on Tumblr describe it as a cross between The Lion King and Queen, though.
